Yep you heard it! From School to College to Office I have this very bad habit of falling asleep at the oddest possible times, whenever things are moving slow or I am feeling bored (almost always) I confidently go to sleep. It is, as if, almost an overpowering effect comes over me and literally drags me into the deepest slumber, I actually dream during some of these naps.
I remember all too well, as many of my friends would too, during college many a periods passed when Poonam or Arindam or Binota (my friends) poked me up so I could answer my roll call and I would do it and turned the other way to settle down more comfortably in the nap I had been enjoying for the past hour or so. The same thing happens at the Office, after lunch like a Bengali, my instinct remains true to my race, that is, my entire being beckons me to gently drift into a comforting siesta and I occasionally wake up with almost all my department standing on their toes straining to take a look at me peacefully sleeping, this is even when I have work to do and might have a deadline to meet! But the reason for my dosing off to oblivion remains almost the same, it is my body's response towards one my most hated things, disinterest, whenever I lose interest on something I tend to dose off, I have always noticed.
But, I still can't explain the reason of another type of nap I sometimes get, sometimes when I am relaxing, it so happens whenever I do get interested, I tend to go to fall asleep! People usually read boring stuff to help them sleep, for me, however, give me a nail biting thriller any day, given a boring novel, I shall stay awake for hours on end and might even finish of the entire boring material before I actually get some sleep!
Picture this:
I was at New empire (that's a movie hall) watching Bourne Ultimatum.....remember the scene where Bourne follows the assassin through the windows of Istanbul(I am not sure of the place's name)? as they start jumping from window to window, doing death defying stunts, expecting, that at least the viewers would stay interested(most of them were holding there breath actually) what did I do?I fell asleep and not just that, I actually got up when I was pushed by Poo and Ard to get out of the Hall! Same thing happened with Mission Impossible Three, I was verbally molested by Suro and Nandy(both die hard MI fans by the way)!
Talk about books, was reading Bankim Chandra's Raj Shingha, Princess Rupmati the princess is being taken away, Manicklal has already joined the Mogul army to take the princess away to safety when the assault starts, the army has entered the narrow pass, overhead the rajputs are ready to attack; the promise of a very entertaining and bloody battle is on the call... what happens to me? My head slowly starts nodding, my eyes becomes smaller and smaller, the heavy book slides slowly out of my loosening grips, onto my chest and the very soft and discreet roar of my nose could be faintly heard, as I, dose off to a surprisingly tiring sleep! for an hour or two!
I could never forgive myself for letting me miss out such wonderful moments of my life; for not letting me watch myself enjoying either a good movie or a good book!
Well I guess I shall continue this I don't know how long while I strife to keep myself awake during some of the most interesting times of my life!(I need not worry about the boring parts as I already would be happily and peacefully sleeping away!)
I just hope things will change for better I shall have my "Awakening"(pun seriously intended!)
