The First Day of the Year!

Today is Poila Baisakh(the First day of the first month of Indian calender) and a great day for us Bengalis as a result I added up a few things about the Naba Barsho(New year), for my colleagues and friends and I think it is pretty good! So(I am sure you knew it you had it coming!) I am posting it here! Enjoy! it is courtesy Geocites with a little effort on my part.....

....Um...Sorry Cant seem to get it pasted here!(kick me if I know Why?)....So here's some nice pics for that!

Its just that this day which attracts each and every BENGALI, no matter where they are on this day!
I love this day, I have always loved it but I understand this even more today when I am far from home and it makes me long for my sweet Bengal even more, for with all its problems, it still remains the sweetest place on earth, the place which brought cascades of dreams in the eyes of its myriad poets and song writers, the ethnicity, the varied and sweet tempered climates, the cool shadows and the most wondrous of all races created by the All mighty resides here, the Bengali,
the subtly romantic, with his razor sharp intellect, yet occasional naiveness, with his almost effeminate love of everything pretty which masks the uncommon strength both physical and moral, his staunch ideologies countered with his argumentative attitudes which leaves no place for prejudices in his heart.
The only race in India who keeps the old thoughts closely guarded in the recesses of his heart yet is the leader in accepting new ideologies in this world of globalization, the stock which breeds the most atheists and agnostics in the staunchly Religious minded Indian system yet have a special closeness to their patron deities, otherwise which people can consider themselves to be actual children of their MAA KAALI? We act as knight errants, and protectors of that goddess Durga who single handedly destroys all evil in the World. How bolder can you get than that?
Do not believe me? place one misplaced word about our very own MAA DURGA in front of a Bengali and see how he reacts? So this strange lot is going to celebrate their new year today.
Today they shall dream such dreams that no one else imagine dreaming and take vows no one can even begin to perceive.
They shall sing their hearts out in the sweetest tongues ever created by mankind, the Bangla Bhasha, and they shall wish all, whether known or unknown, friend or foe to have a wonderful year ahead and they shall be very serious about it and mean it!

Each Bengali are a gastronomic Mogul and nothing ends without some wonderful food!

Luchi, the ultimate! but Luchi is half without...

Alur Dom!

Once breakfast is over Lunch comes Fast!

modern Bengali cuisine a World class Cuisine System and as served in some internationally famous restaurants....

...but nothing beats Home...

We Bengalis are like a river, we always flow, never stand still, as flexible and yet as powerful, we are easily led but handle us foolishly and we are unstoppable.....

But We are After All Forces Of Good and Believe Loving All! So...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A Subtle essence of Kolkata...in a blink!

"Manna Dey" his melodies takes one back to the nostalgic days in Kolkata! He also shows how melodious our language is!

"Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen",represents the imaginative quality and goes on to show that Kolkata is truly a magical City! Also Portrays the artistic quality of Kolkatan heart, through the master film maker Satyajit Ray!

The peculiar lyrics of "Chandrabindoo" shows the sense of humour of the Kolkatans! Also their ardent love of music be it modern, be it old, be it rock or be it folk!

Kolkatans are SWEET! No doubt about that!Be it "Rosogollas" or their Hearts!

Football shows that we kolkatans know how to show sportsman spirit on and off the field(although we fight over teams but we are ONE, after everything is said and done)! In some way Football also shows the passion Kolkatans have within them!

The ultimate Couple of Bengali Cinema"Uttam Suchitra" depicts the Romanticism of Kolkatans to its Height!

"Sondesh" just another way to share our happiness and sweetness with people!

We Kolkatans are foodies....to the end! This is a product of an unique cuisine of our city, the Anglo-Mughlai genre of cooking, the sinfully mouth watering "Mangshor chop"!

Trams in Kolkata shows we never forget the old and Cultural!and we remember the heritage of our City!

We are oldies at heart (that is why you find so many old buildings), but we do make way for new stuff, Old and new coexist side by side

We have found the way to the ultimate truth and know the formula of inner peace, more over we have frozen the path with a stone structure of beauty called "Belurmath"!

Fish! the National food of Bengalies! One of the more "Bengali" ways to show we are all equal at heart, we all LOVE fish!

Our city is developed with a lot of fly overs nothing new there.... but it's a heart melting site to see those roads and streets once again, let me tell you!

One of the three things that we share with China hand pulled Rickshaws(the other two being communism and cuisine!)

We are religious and our favourite goddess is our "Maa Kaali" she can take care of us if bad guys come over and she loves us, all her children just the same!

We kolkatans are knowledgeable and we LOVE our Books!

We are known as the City of joy just for Nothing, we love our festivals and when it comes to celebrating the annual home coming of our very own Divine daughter we take merrymaking seriously!

At "Jamaisasti" the mom-in-laws can't dote enough on their loving son-in-laws, we firmly believe the way to the heart goes directly through the stomach!

Within every one's heart there is an artist, in Kolkata it's genetic!

a little(but mouth watering!) snack of "Beguni"
with the evening tea is our Favourite!

Yes we have to work hard to make ends meet...but who doesn't?

Our heritage and Our City mascot! Victoria memorial!

New and Old Peacefully Co-exist in Kolkata!

PLOA! I Remember Guys?

Does anybody knows the meaning of MAPQ? Well I guessed not! It was term coined by Ard actually, I shall NOT mention the circumstances in which he invented the word, nor would I elucidate upon the nature of his toil he was undergoing when he came up with this phrase but the phrase, in fact did inspire us(specially) me to start our very own dictionary! then one day Paddy came up with PLOA and BANG! that was it! PLOA stands for Poo's Law Of Advocacy....and it's very first word was MAPQ, which meant...now read it carefully...Multi-Angular Perseverance Quality..ahem.. which means, in simple terms, there are many ways to see things...(It actually became sort of a code word)...............OK it is a foolish thing but at that time it seemed to be pretty smart, and frankly speaking these were just the very kind of charms and fun that I miss now a days those sunny days of college with friends, I have talked with a number of my pals and they feel exactly the same. It seems strange that it is not even been a year that we have left college yet, the memories haunts us as if they were of an age, which have passed on eons ago, maybe because we are all scattered up and those of us who would see each other every single day for five years and used to spend near nigh eight hours a day together, hardly talk to each other now...such is the quality of the phenomenon called life.......

My Girl!

Today's eleventh and only three more days to go before Valentines Day comes, I am really put off for i won't be able to be with my girl on that day! I only hope that I be with her a month later on 16th March, it's our anniversary and I really really do not want to miss all these special days....well about my girl what should I say about her, whatever I said would be highly prejudiced as to me she is after all the most beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, funny, loving, sweet and gentle girl there is...and I really don't get it how a looser like me ended up with such a great girl like her, but she is very shy I"ll give that to her...(which makes her all the more cute by the way!)

I still remember that first day so very distinctly, the day I spoke to her for the very first time! she was all smiles but hardly any talks! Later I found out she was awfully scared of me! She thought I might hit her and then she would go flying away(what a strange thought!)

However then she settled down and we got to know each other better and as each day passes I find i love her more and more!

Well...I guess that will suffice she would be reading this....she"ll as it is would not want me to post all these(like I said, she is awfully shy!) I literally had to fight with her to get a pic of her and that too she deleted!

The Place I Call Home!

After coming to Mumbai, I really miss my Home . I am a true Kolkatan and I realize this more and more as the days pass by. I am, keeping tandem with the heritage of a true kolkatan, a dreamer, a romantic and an idealist and One like me has little interest in these dusty cities which, is in it's way rude; unfriendly and alien. I really want to return to my City but unless I get an opportunity I really can't. Thus, whenever I hear of my Kolkata, torrents of memories rushes in and floods my mind! I sadly remember my college days the canteen; our usual quota of two seats by the window looking at the Environment Science building next door. Those lazy hours of easy chat, heated arguments and playful leg pulling, always punctuated by foul words(not from the girls but almost always from me, the other guys were a trifle reserved, when girls were around!). Those glorious hours we actually wasted(and are pretty happy about it!), when we knew we ought to be studying, as the teacher didn't show up, but never actually doing it.

Those hours at the Bally gunge Circular Road CCD, and also those treats at sharma's and Monginies. I miss the Science Canteen and also the the steps which Ard and Me used to call The Holy Place or The Ground Zero. Our own Law Canteen Where I banged the table with futile hopes of keeping pace with the beats of Puff's Bongo drums(and sometimes a plastic pot and a steel spoon!man that guy is talented!), singing all sorts of song ranging from Rabindra Sangeet to Summer of 69 and having a blast at all of them, ten people smoking one cig over endless cups of tea and chicken pakoras. I vividly remember the endless thumsUps and sprites along with trying out costly smoke brands at Hazra Mor; that shop keeper knew us by sight and Ard almost never had to say that he wanted a thumsUp, he would himself get him one! That heavenly biriyani at Khwaja's, which we hogged up, usually the full plate,(as it contained two pieces of the juiciest mutton) and we would be so eternally satisfied after that meal. I remember those days when went to Raul's. Oh! how we loved that moth eaten joint for getting cheap booze(they did not charge VAT!) and how we felt at top of the World while holding the glasses(Mine's a Vodka, Ard's a Rum and Paddy's a sprite once in a while a beer!) we loved every moment of it! That walk to Sir's Tuition at Gariahaat in the after hours and those early morning sessions at Saptaprni! Man how I hated the 8.30 a.m sessions, all sleepy and how I fell asleep many times during the class. The hundreds of proxies that we had given for each other(In fact we made it a point to take turns to come early every Saturday,in our fourth year, just to give Attendance for all!). I remember those wonderful wonderful days I spent near the science lake with my girl, how I loved those romantic escapades(DIRTY MIND! We ONLY talked!)............

I distinctly remember those long minutes(which seemed like hours!) waiting at the GP Metro Station for Ard as he would keep postponing and gladly announcing that I should not leave home for the station for another half an hour(even after he had told me to do so fifteen minutes earlier)

God Bless Him!

I got struck by the lightening in my College and that Thunderbolt still lightens my life till date! Unfortunately she's back home and I am stuck here! However I shall continue this Topic! I have Lots More to say.................

College...with J.K.D.(pity we aren't in the pic!!)
